Sarah & Aaron

Sarah and Aaron met on a college scuba diving trip to Egypt. Their love has taken them all the way through university, into first jobs, many new friendships, a few bold career twists, several houses, and hundreds of hours of card-based table top games. Nerds.

They've basically been inseparable since 2007 and together they've built a beautiful life decorated by their colourful friends and family, and their individual loves and hobbies.

OK, I'll admit now, I am one of said colourful friends. Sarah's one of my best buds. And knowing these two so well inevitably turned my simple wedding poem into a bit of a spoken-word epic.

The original that I tucked into the bodice of my bridesmaid dress before reading it aloud during the ceremony.

Fire Coral
Our pair first met in Egypt, the Red Sea to be precise.
Between the coral and clown fish, Aaron spotted something nice.
It wasn’t a barracuda, or a turtle, though that would have been neat,
Her name was Sarah Thomas and to his eyes, she was a treat.
Sarah looked up while swimming with grace,
noticed him floating and sweeping her hair from her face,
admired his dorky emo-cut bobbing in the waves above.
It was a spark, burning and sudden.
Or was that fire coral? No, it was love.
No match is perfect, but these guys are cute.
An understanding of each other’s minds and vibes,
the kind of love best described as ‘true’.
The biggest fans of one another, they’re lucky through and through.
For who else would sit and play Magic all night?
Sarah’s got skills, her card game is tighter than most of the guys,
and at viddy game marathons, our girl is a pro
at Bioshock, Zelda and Pokemon Go.
Together, they make a reliable pair.
Perpetually late, covered in cat hair, but always there
supporting each other. And their friends too.
Third wheel, fourth wheel, you’ll never be blue
with Aaron and Sarah around.
So, grab a tissue, we’ll raise a glass.
Here they are, about to make it official at last.
Fiancés now, just a thing of the past,
and the greatest things are worth waiting for…
And talk about waiting! They’ve only been dating twelve years or more.
You guys, I totally love you both
and cannot wait to raise a toast
to you, your love and your special day,
to sing and dance the night away
demurely fight for the bouquet,
and celebrate this marital decree,
Honouring a love much vaster than the great Red Sea.
